When I took the leap from bedside nursing, I was laser-focused on securing a specific job in quality improvement, convinced it was the golden ticket to success.

​Thinking that if I could just get that role, everything would fall into place.

However, a surprising turn of events challenged this belief.

Landing what I thought was my “dream job” led to an unexpected letdown, with a toxic environment and unrealistic work expectations.

Through my experience, I discovered that the environment I was working in didn’t align with my values. I was uncomfortable pushing the agenda of a physician when I believed that accurate implementation wouldn’t work without nursing's investment.

Then came a profound realization: true career fulfillment wasn't about titles but about cultivating skills and making a meaningful impact in healthcare and nursing.

I was prompted to dig deep and reflect on what I truly wanted for my career.

​It wasn’t just about finding the right job—it was about focusing on the mission of the work I wanted to carry out.

This pivotal moment inspired me to redefine my career path, shifting my focus from job titles to pursuing work that resonated with my core values.

The perspective shift opened doors I hadn’t considered. I found joy in leading initiatives, engaging in meaningful conversations, and advocating for the nursing voice at the table.

The clarity I gained was enlightening, empowering, and fulfilling.
